Frequently asked questions about charging points
Q:How much does it cost to install a charging point at home?
The cost of installing a wallbox at home in Ibiza varies by power. A single-phase 7.4 kW charger (the standard for homes) costs from €1,200 installed, including the wallbox, wiring, protections and labour. If you have three-phase at home, a 22 kW charger starts from €1,800. Under the MOVES III program you can obtain subsidies of up to €600 per charging point. The cost pays for itself quickly since charging at home is 3–4 times cheaper than public charging points.
Q:How long does it take to charge an electric car at home?
With a 7.4 kW wallbox (the most common in homes), a typical electric car with a 50–60 kWh battery takes between 6–8 hours for a full charge. If you plug it in overnight, it will be at 100% by morning. With a 22 kW three-phase wallbox, the same car charges in 2–3 hours. Most users schedule night charging to take advantage of the cheaper off-peak tariff so the car is always ready in the morning.
Q:What power should I contract for a car charger?
A 7.4 kW wallbox with a contracted power of 5.75 kW (standard 2.0TD tariff) works perfectly if you schedule charging at night when there are no other loads. If you want to charge quickly during the day while using other appliances, it’s advisable to have 7–10 kW contracted. Modern smart wallboxes manage power automatically to avoid tripping the limiter. We advise you on the power you need based on your installation and consumption habits.
Q:How much do you save charging at home versus public charging stations?
The savings are huge. Charging at home with a night tariff costs around €0.08–0.10/kWh. A full 50 kWh charge (≈300 km range) costs €4–5. At public charging stations the price is €0.40–0.60/kWh, so the same charge costs €20–30. If you also charge with solar panels, the cost is practically zero. An average user driving 15,000 km per year saves between €800–1,200 annually by charging at home versus public stations.
Q:Are there subsidies to install a charging point?
Yes, the MOVES III program offers subsidies of up to €600 for charging points in single-family homes and up to €1,500 for installations in communities. To access these grants you must buy a new electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle. If you also install solar panels alongside the wallbox, aid can reach €4,000 in total. We handle all the paperwork at no extra cost.
Q:Can a wallbox be installed in a community building?
Yes, it is completely legal. Since 2021, communities cannot refuse the installation of charging points in private parking spaces. You only need to notify the community (no vote required). If your space has an individual meter, the installation is the same as in a single-family home. If not, we can make a spur from your household meter. For common areas, a multi-point system with individual billing can be installed. We advise you throughout the legal process.
