Frequently asked questions about sprayed cork

Resolvemos las dudas más habituales antes de solicitar presupuesto.

What is sprayed cork?

It is a continuous coating made from cork granules and binders, applied by spraying. Depending on the system and thickness, it provides protection, elasticity, breathability and thermal improvement.

What is sprayed cork used for?

It is used to renovate and protect facades, party walls, patios and other surfaces, helping to protect against microcracks, external moisture and temperature changes.

How much does sprayed cork cost per square metre?

The price varies depending on the surface area, preparation, height, access, colour, number of coats and repairs. We assess the substrate to quote for the complete system, not just the product.

Does sprayed cork waterproof?

It is water-repellent and helps protect surfaces, but it does not always replace a dedicated waterproofing system. Roofs, joints or significant leaks may require additional solutions.

Does sprayed cork eliminate damp?

It can help with external moisture and surface condensation, but leaks, rising damp or poor ventilation must first be identified. No coating can correct every cause on its own.

Does it provide thermal insulation?

Cork has insulating properties and reduces surface temperature impact. The actual improvement depends on the thickness and system; it should not be confused with a thick external insulation system.

Does it also provide sound insulation?

It can reduce reverberation and provide some acoustic improvement, but the result depends on the complete building enclosure. A specific assessment is required for a particular acoustic objective.

Can it be applied to any wall?

It can be applied to many mineral and painted substrates provided they are sound, clean and properly prepared. We carry out adhesion tests where there is old paint, moisture or incompatible materials.

Can it be applied to tiles, metal or wood?

It may be possible with suitable preparation and primer, but adhesion, movement and exposure must be assessed. We do not recommend applying it without a prior test.

How long does sprayed cork last?

With a properly prepared substrate and suitable maintenance, it can last for many years. Exposure, thickness, application quality and the condition of joints affect its service life.

Does sprayed cork crack?

Its elasticity helps accommodate microcracks, but it cannot absorb unlimited structural movement. Active cracks must be assessed and repaired beforehand.

Is it breathable?

Yes, suitable systems allow vapour diffusion, helping to prevent trapped moisture. The compatibility of all existing layers must be checked.

What colours and textures are available?

Different shades and grain sizes are available depending on the manufacturer. We prepare samples to assess the colour, texture and appearance in the facade’s actual light.

Can sprayed cork be painted over?

Yes, using compatible, breathable paints recommended for the system. An unsuitable product may reduce elasticity or breathability.

Does it require maintenance?

Joints, impact damage, junctions and dirt should be inspected periodically. Timely localised repairs extend the life of the finish.

Is it an eco-friendly material?

Cork is renewable and its use makes use of a natural material, although the finished product also contains binders and additives. We can provide the technical data sheet for the proposed system.

How long does application take?

It depends on the area, height and preparation required. Spraying is quick, but cleaning, repairs, priming, coats and drying times all form part of the overall schedule.

Can it be applied using rope-access work?

Yes, it can be applied using rope access on many facades and patios. Safety and spray control are assessed beforehand.

What are the disadvantages of sprayed cork?

It does not correct structural damage, requires specialist applicators and its texture may not suit every building. In addition, poor preparation compromises adhesion.

How do I know whether it is suitable for my facade?

We assess the substrate, moisture, cracks, exposure, desired finish and thermal objective. We then advise whether sprayed cork or another system is most suitable.
